Utah Cufflinks – Sales Tax Tokens
These tax tokens were used beginning in 1937 through 1941. Utah passed a sales tax in 1933 but began using these aluminum tokens in 1937. The aluminum tokens were phased out during the War because of their then-precious metals. These tokens were used to pay tax on quarter purchases.
The tokens are attached to silver-plated cufflink posts. They measure just larger than a nickel. The feature a cut-out star w/ 5's on each side of it. The text reads Emergency Relief Fund on one token; and Utah Sales Tax Token on the other. The silver cufflink post shines through the star, highlighting it more.
The tokens were circulated, and they are over 70 years old, so their exact condition varies but our pictures above are consistent with what you will receive. They are not clean - they feature scratches, nicks, obvious wear, and some grime - but each pair is wholly unique.
The cufflinks will be shipped in a cufflink box - appropriate for gift giving.
